After a blessing pronounced by Ngathingpam Kapai, pastor of Phungyar Baptist Church, the turf was officially opened by Huimi Siro, Edward Siro’s father, in the presence of family members, friends, and well-wishers.

Speaking to the media, Edward Siro highlighted the importance of sports in the physical and emotional development of younger generations and assured affordable pricing for the turf. He encouraged young individuals to prioritize health and active living over merely pursuing education and business. He also expressed his willingness to collaborate with local football clubs and mentioned that his brother would manage the turf operations.

Edward, an established businessman, emphasized the turf’s prime location and its dimensions of 150 by 65 meters. He pointed out the premium quality of the grass (Dtex), the generous addition of sand and rubber bits to prevent injuries, and the proper drainage system that replicates the feel of playing on natural ground. The turf also features amenities such as a geyser-equipped bathroom and a generator for night play. Edward revealed that the overall budget was around Rs 1 crore, with significant expenses on ground leveling and retaining walls due to the landslide-prone area.

Meanwhile, Ngaraipam Kasomhung, a professional footballer and owner of Haokok FC, complimented the turf’s quality and facilities, expressing his intention to bring his students to play at the new facility. He stressed the importance of having such a facility in a region that experiences frequent rainfall, making it difficult for players to find suitable practice grounds.

Reisangmi Vashum, President of the Tangkhul Football Players Association and a former professional footballer, lauded the turf’s establishment as a significant step forward for football in the region. He noted the historical decline in sports culture due to inadequate infrastructure but expressed optimism about the current generation of aspiring players, attributing progress to facilities like SS Turf and local football academies.
