Ukhrul Observes International Nurses Day

Ukhrul: Ukhrul observed International Nurses Day at DRDA Hall, Mini Secretariat Complex, Ukhrul, under the theme “Our Nurses, Our Future, The Economic Power of Care” on Tuesday. Organized by the Trained Nurses Association of India, Ukhrul Branch, Manipur.

Shimray Wungreichon, President of TNAI-Ukhrul Branch, Manipur, said, “TNAI Ukhrul Branch, Manipur, was formed on 10th May 2024 under the guidance and support of CMO of Ukhrul, Dr. Kapangring A Shimray, MS of Ukhrul District Hospital, Dr. Reisangmi Raikhan, DACO of Ukhrul, Dr. Yuithingla Vashum, and other medical officers.”

“To strengthen unity among nurses and to compete with nurses across the globe, we have established TNAI-Ukhrul Branch, Manipur,” added the President of TNAI-Ukhrul Branch, Manipur.

Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul, Kengoo Zuringla (IAS), shared her life experiences and interactions with doctors and nurses at various hospitals. “It is a challenging profession; one must be mentally prepared to uplift and support the patient. Remember, your words, actions, and attitude towards visiting patients are part of the healing process. Be the beacon of hope. Let your light shine brightly even in the darkest times,” added Kengoo Zuringla.

Dr. Kapangring A Shimray said, “This day reaffirms our commitment to our profession and serving humanity with greater zeal. Empathy is synonymous with nurses. Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing, hailed from an affluent background but chose to serve the needy and wounded. Let us emulate Florence Nightingale and work towards reducing death rates through proper care and attention. Nurses drive economic growth and are the cornerstone of the nation’s healthcare system. They are a resilient force promoting health equity.”

“Nursing education empowers communities. Let us encourage more nurses to emerge from our communities,” added Dr. Kapangring A Shimray.

Dr. Reisangmi Raikhan mentioned, “This is the first time nurses from Kamjong district have been invited to celebrate and observe ‘International Nurses Day’ together in this manner.” Dr. Reisangmi Raikhan commended the nurses for their selfless contributions, elevating the health services of the district. He also highlighted nurses’ invaluable contributions during the Covid19 pandemic and urged them to continue serving with empathy and discipline.

K. Makreiwon, ANM, was awarded the Florence Nightingale Award of TNAI-Ukhrul Branch for her sincere and relentless service to the community. Daisy Tamang, CHO, recipient of the State Florence Nightingale Award 2022, Songanla Keishing, recipient of the Woman Covid19 Vaccination Champion Award 2023, and V. Philanam, recipient of the Wonder Woman of Manipur Award 2022, were also felicitated during the program.

District Nodal Officer, NVHCP of Ukhrul, Dr. Phangreichon Lungran, elaborated on the five types of Hepatitis and their symptoms. She emphasized the modes of transmission, necessary treatment, and prevention measures.

As of April 2024, Ukhrul District recorded the highest positive rates of HBV and HCV among the districts in the state of Manipur. In April 2024, around 215 people were tested for HBV, with 12 testing positive, and around 240 people were tested for HCV, with 28 testing positive. The total number of HBV tests conducted stands at 5132, with 318 positive cases, while the total number of HCV tests conducted stands at 6001, with 1160 positive cases.

Senior and retired nurses were deeply acknowledged by the TNAI-Ukhrul Branch, Manipur, during the observance. Rev. Zaklei Kaping, Pastor of Phungyo Baptist Church, offered a special prayer for nurses, medical officers, and health workers. A performance by renowned Tangkhul singer, Chungsangla Jajo, added more vibrancy to the celebration. The observation included a candle lighting ceremony and nurses’ pledge.
