Ukhrul Police Destroy 80 Acres of Illegal Poppy Plantation

UKHRUL: Ukhrul Police on Monday said it carried out a poppy destruction drive at two locations in the district, destroying a total of 80 acres of illegal poppy cultivation.

At Yaolen–Lamlai Chingphei area, a joint team comprising District Police, BSF, Forest Department and NAB destroyed 48 acres of poppy plantation. During the operation, two huts used by poppy cultivators were burnt. Police said that an FIR will be registered in connection with the case.

In a separate operation at the LM Block area, another joint team consisting of District Police, 6 MR, Forest Department and 18 Assam Rifles destroyed 32 acres of poppy plantation. Three huts used by the cultivators were also burnt, and police said an FIR will be registered accordingly.

Police informed that the poppy destruction drive will continue till Saturday, December 20, 2025.
