Ukhrul: The President of India Droupadi Murmu on Monday conferred the prestigious National Geoscience Awards 2022 (NGA) of the Ministry of Mines in a glittering function organized at Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre.
Twenty-two Geoscientists including working professionals and academicians from across the country received the awards grouped under three categories namely one National Geoscience Award for Life Time Achievement, one National Young Geoscientist Award and eight National Geoscience Awards in various fields of geosciences.
Dr. Om Narain Bhargava received National Geoscience Award for Lifetime Achievement.

Among the twenty-two Geoscientists, Ngazipmi Chahong from Manipur’s Ukhrul District, TM Kasom Village (Roudei) was conferred team award in National Geoscience Awards- 2022 under Mineral Discovery & Exploration (excluding fossil fuels) of economic and/or strategic importance and application of innovative techniques.
Ngazipmi Chahong won the prestigious NGA 2022 award under Geological Survey of India (GSI) comprising of four team members namely, Jitendra Kumar, Geologist, Ngazipmi Chahong, Geologist, Bikash Kumar Acharya, Sr. Geologist and Anindya Bhattacharya, Director.

Minister of Coal, Mines & Parliamentary Affairs Shri Pralhad Joshi and Minister of State for Coal, Mines & Railways Raosaheb Patil Danve and senior functionaries of the Ministry of Mines, Geological Survey of India graced the occasion.

The 32-year-old completed his integrated MSc- five years (BSc + MSc) in Pondicherry University – Applied Geology. He had a one year stint as a JRF at Banaras Hindu University (BHU)- Department of Geology, Institute of Science. The young geologist has so far published three papers in journals, two papers in ‘Mineralogy and Petrology,’ and one paper in ‘Himalayan Geology.’
