UNC to convene consultative meet with intending Naga candidates for Lok Sabha polls 2024 in Senapati

Senapati: The United Naga Council, the apex body of the Nagas in Manipur stated it is “convening a consultative meeting on February 27, 2024 with all the intending [Naga] candidates from their respective tribe for the upcoming 18 Lok Sabha Election, 2024.”

The Election Commission is likely to announce the dates for Lok Sabha polls after March 13.

According to UNC, the “consultative meeting to be held for Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency and respective tribe Presidents” will be held at UNC office, Tahamzam (Senapati) District HQ at 11:AM.

The letter issued on Friday stated that the consultative meeting is of “paramount importance that a Naga represents our people in the Lok Sabha; given the present time and situation.” UNC stated that the meeting is being convened for securing the same.

Meanwhile, the indenting candidates for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha polls from the Naga tribe, as of now are at least 7 candidates from across the hill districts of Manipur. Ukhrul Times however have not been able to verify if all the 7 indenting candidates have green signals from their respective political parties they will represent.

As per a news report in The Sangai Express, 4 persons, including Dr. Lorho S. Pfoze are in the fray for the Naga People’s Front (NPF) party ticket. Kho John, former MLA Samuel Risom and retired Income Tax Commissioner K Timothy Zimik are the other 3, the report said.

Dr. Lorho S. Pfoze is the sitting MP elected from Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency from NPF.

A reliable source in UNC said that 4 candidates has so far confirmed for the consultative meeting to be held on February 27. The list of the 7 are shown below, including the 4 persons who have reportedly confirmed for the meeting.

  1. Dr. Alyson Abomai, a renowned Social Worker – Tamenglong District (Confirmed)
  2. Alfred Khanngam S. Arthur, former MLA – Ukhrul District. (Unconfirmed)
  3. K. Timothy Zimik, IRS (Retd.) – Ukhrul District. (Confirmed)
  4. Kho John, former UNC President – Senapati District, Tungjoy. (Confirmed)
  5. Dr. Lorho S. Pfoze sitting Member of Parliament from Senapati District. (Confirmed)
  6. Samuel Risom, former MLA from Ukhrul District, Hungpung. (Unconfirmed)
  7. Lanjaigai Kamson, son of (L) Gangmumei Kamei – Tamenglong District. (Unconfirmed)
