Imphal: The Janata Dal (United) has strongly reacted to a comment reportedly made by Mizoram chief minister Zoramthanga.
According to the JD(U), the Mizoram chief minister had called for “unification of Zo areas”. The JD(U) said it was a direct challenge to the unity of Manipur. The JD(U) termed the reported comment of the Mizoram chief minister as “unfortunate and irresponsible”.

A media report said that Mizoram chief minister Zoramthanga, during a meeting of Mizo National Front (MNF), had reportedly said that, “while any state government cannot directly interfere in the internal affairs of a state like Manipur, the unification of all the contiguous areas inhabited by Zo tribes has been one of the main objectives of the founding leaders of the MNF.”

Reacting to this, Manipur unit president of the JD(U), Ksh Biren said that the statement made by the Mizoram chief minister is “uncalled for and irresponsible” as head of a state, especially during a trying time as in Manipur today.
Ksh Biren then alleged that the MNF meeting in Mizoram was also attended by one of the “Kuki-Chin” MLAs of Manipur.
