Union MoS Chandrasekhar Assures Full Support to Uplift Traditional Skills and Artisans of Nagaland

Union Minister of State for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Electronics and IT, Rajeev Chandrasekhar has assured of full support to the Nagaland government departments to improve the traditional skills and artisans for prosperity.

The Union MoS made the assurance while expressing satisfaction to witness the Mongken apparel & garment production & training unit, a convergence project under SANKALP Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship at 5th mile in Dimapur.

Mongken is the joint venture of three government departments in Nagaland – Department of Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Department of Industries & Commerce and Department for Development of Underdeveloped Areas. Mongken also exhibits most exquisite and authentic tribal artifacts, weave patterns and motifs from Eastern Nagaland.   

“Skills, artisans and the quality of works in Nagaland are world class while the skills development centers existent in the State need more support,” he said.

The Mongken center is in complete agreement with the vision of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to have traditional skills and artisans connected to global markets with their products and services through the right amount of skilling input and support from the State and Central governments, said Chandrasekhar.

The Prime Minister envisions supporting the traditional crafts with skilling and technology to make their successful, he said.

Having visited the Mongken facility before concluding his two-day visit to the State, the Union MoS said he is deeply impressed with the determination and hard work in the digital printing of traditional motifs into wearables.

He also asserted that the Union Ministry will extend all possible support to uplift the skills development centers in the State.

He also encouraged the Naga youths to be part of the movements like Mongken and the traditional arts and skills that exist in the State to move forward as there is a lot of opportunity globally.

It is time for the youth to break up the opportunities and work hard to create a future life of prosperity as the government is working to build their ecosystem to translate that hard work into prosperity, he said.

During his visit with Nagaland Advisor for IT and New and Renewable Energy Mmhonlumo Kikon and Advisor for Industries and Commerce Imnatiba, the Additional Director of DUDA Dr Anungla Imdong Phom highlighted the different activities of DUDA towards the uplift of economic condition and development of the backward districts. 

She also apprised the Union MoS on the functioning of Mongken while also seeking further assistance from the Union Ministry towards creating such facilities in the State. 

Earlier, the Union MoS also inspected the functioning of the apparel unit and assured to fulfill the requirements for more infrastructure as placed through a letter handed over by DUDA advisor Bongkhao Konyak.
