Unknown miscreants shoot 3 youths in Thoubal Dist; police recovers weapons

Imphal, August 18: Three youths were found Friday afternoon at a tri-junction on the Yairipok Charangpat road in Thoubal District, having sustained gunshot wounds to their legs.

The individuals who were injured have been identified as Md. Musharaf (20), Md. Ruhish (18), and Md. Warish, son of late Md. Nazir Ahamed), all hailing from different localities from Yairipok.

Unidentified miscreants targeted each of the youths by firing a bullet into their calf. Following the incident, a team comprising Yairipok Police and Thoubal Commando reached the location and took the victims for first aid to Yairipok Community Health Centre before transporting them to Imphal for further medical attention.

Reliable sources suggest that the shooting might be connected to drug-related activities. A video purportedly released by a proscribed outfit claimed that the three youths were shot in the legs after being apprehended with 4 kilograms of heroin in Yairipok Keisham of Thoubal district, around midnight the previous day.

A case related to the incident has been filed at Yairipok Police Station.

In another news, a search operation was conducted at Pichu village in Thoubal District on Friday by a combined team led by the Thoubal Police Superintendent (SP) and Yairipok Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO). The operation took place from 4:00 AM to 7:30 AM.

The combined team of seven commando teams of Thoubal Police, Yairipok Police Station and women police successfully recovered weapons during the operation. The seized weapons include One Magazine with the serial number BD-510139, One AK-47 Rifle and Eleven Bayonets. There are no reports of any arrests. The recovered weapons were handed over to the Yairipok Police Station for further legal action.
