Ukhrul, April 24: In the latest incident involving two Kuki settlements, Gampal and Haijang hamlet, both were allegedly razed to the ground on April 23, 2025. These villages, located near International Border Pillar No. 118, become the focus of discussion when the news first surfaced.
However, a particular video clip stood out. It was being shared initially when the news of the incident began to spread rapidly. As the dust has seemingly settled as of April 24, it appears that the particular unrelated video clip which had nothing to do with the actual event was peddled left right and center.
The clip in question, it appears, was used by vested groups to stir emotions and push a specific narrative virtually. Some news outlets fell into the trap head-on, unknowingly.
Several social media handles, particularly those associated with Kuki communities, along with some news outlets, circulated the unverified video clip claiming to depict the aftermath of the incident at the two Kuki settlements.

Key indicators that the Video is Misleading:
Why this matters
In incidents involving arson and violence, the use of unrelated or deceptive video footage is highly problematic and unethical, particularly for journalists covering sensitive, conflict-prone state like Manipur. The video clip in circulation was recorded at a different location and time, and has no connection to the April 23, Kamjong District incident.
Authorities in Kamjong District are still investigating and have yet to identify the perpetrators behind the attack. According to police, 14 houses in Gambal/Gampal and 8 houses in Haiyeng/Haijang hamlet were allegedly set ablaze by “unknown miscreants.”

It is also noteworthy that the Naga Army (GPRN) issued a statement on Thursday denying any involvement in the incident.
Therefore, any claims suggesting the involvement of any community or armed group, whether from the Indian or Myanmar side, remain purely speculative until verified by credible evidence.
