UKHRUL: The Naga Peoples Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR) on Thursday stated that it was “utterly shocked” to discover the dismembered mortal remains of the six Naga civilians who were kidnapped and taken hostage from Leilon Vaiphei village in Kangpokpi district, Manipur by the Kuki community on May 13.

In a statement, NPMHR stated that justice must be done in order for their souls to rest in peace.

“The When certain things are done that goes beyond reasonable or tolerable limits, the rationale human mind often finds itself lost in words,” NPMHR stated, adding, “And this is also where we at the NPMHR are finding ourselves lost in words, and trying to understand how some people with animal instincts, calling themselves as human beings can behave and act in manners as to how they have demonstrated themselves to the world as was in the case when six innocent Naga civilians were kidnapped and taken hostage only to be executed in a most gruesome and unspeakable barbarity.”

It stated that it has been following closely and cautioning fellow Nagas not to react in ways that may jeopardize the lives of people who are actually innocent and are only caught in cross-fire situations ever since the hostage issue flared up after May 13.

“As such, we have been advocating for their safe releases, insisting that Nagas cannot lower our humanity and dignity to the levels of people shorn of humanity and respect for any moral standard of life,” NPMHR stated.

It maintained that despite many segments of the Kuki community, both as individuals, groups or organizations, indulging in lies, conspiracies, insults and provocations to fellow Naga people, the magnanimity of the Naga heredity prevailed over all evil designs and actions.

“The world stands to testify the humanitarian act of the release of the 14 Kuki hostages unharmed, in good health and great spirit,” it stated, adding that the Nagas expected the same reciprocal result in the case of the six Naga brothers who were captured and held hostages by the Kuki community.

“But we were utterly shocked to discover the dismembered mortal remains which indicate the barbarity of the captors devoid of any human attribute,” NPMHR stated while calling upon all conscientious people across communities, race or countries to collectively condemn and resolve to shun such acts.

It also appealed to the conscience of all Naga people, to stand together at all times with courage, dignity and honour.
