Ukhrul: In a remarkable achievement, Sub-Inspector Vashum Meena of the Women Police Station, Ukhrul district, was awarded the Best Police Officer Award 2024 on the occasion of the 133rd Raising Day of Manipur Police in Imphal on Saturday.
This year, the DGP Award for Best Police Officer was presented to Sub-Inspectors Meena and L. Sarjubala of Bishnupur Women Police Station for their exceptional and outstanding professional performance as women police officers.
A cash prize of Rs 10,000 and a certificate were presented by the Minister for Forest and Agriculture, Thongam Biswajit Singh, during the event, held at the 1st Battalion Manipur Rifles ground in Imphal.

Speaking to Ukhrul Times, Sub-Inspector Meena expressed her gratitude for the recognition and acknowledged the hard work and dedication she has put in while serving society as a woman police officer.
Joining the state police department on February 1, 2010, Meena is currently serving as the Officer-in-Charge of the Ukhrul Women Police Station, handling POCSO cases for both Ukhrul and Kamjong districts.
“So far, I have handled 25 POCSO-related cases, with 23 charge-sheeted and two FIRs. Three cases have already resulted in convictions,” Meena shared.
The officer also highlighted the challenges faced while handling such cases, especially the lack of proper transportation for the Women Police Station.
“Sometimes, we had to travel to remote areas in the hill districts and often faced difficulties transporting victims for further investigation and medical treatment,” she lamented.

This year, the DGP Trophy for Best Police Station was awarded to Lamphel Police Station in Imphal West, while Jiribam Police Station and Churachandpur Women Police Station shared the honor of the Second Best Police Station. Patsoi Police Station and Bishnupur Police Station were jointly awarded the Third Best Police Station.
According to Rajiv Singh, the Director General of Police (DGP), Manipur, the selections were made by a screening committee formed on September 14, 2024, to inspect police stations recommended by District Superintendents of Police.
