‘Woman from Langchingmanbi village Found Dead with a Bullet Injury’: Manipur Police

Ukhrul, June 19: Following Thursday’s incident where Kuki armed men allegedly attacked one Ningthoujam Biren Singh while working in a paddy field at Phubala Maning in Bishnupur District, Manipur Police in its “incident Report” said that one woman from Langchingmanbi village was found dead with a bullet injury.

Per Police, the victim has been identified as Hoikholhing, wife of the village chief of Langchingmanbi. “Local police have attended to the incident and the deceased is being transported to District Hospital, Churachandpur for necessary legal formalities. Cases have been registered in connection with the incidents, and investigation is underway,” Manipur Police said.

According to Manipur Police the shooting at Phubala and subsequent exchange of fire on Thursday occurred at approximately 3 PM. “Ningthoujam Biren Singh, a cultivator from Phubala Awang Maning Leikai, was shot in his left arm by an unknown armed miscreant while working in his paddy field at Phubala Maning. He was initially taken to District Hospital, Bishnupur for medical treatment and was later referred to RIMS Hospital, Imphal. His condition is reported to be stable at present,” the Police report said.

Further the report said that the security forces in response launched a search operation in and around Langchingmanbi, Heichanglok, and the western areas of Phubala village. During the course of the operation, security forces came under fire from unknown armed miscreants and the forces retaliated accordingly.

Manipur Police then said that security forces are actively searching for the culprits and are committed to ensuring justice. Security measures for farming activities in the area will be reviewed and strengthened to protect farmers. The public is urged to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information.
