A close friend, who wished to remain anonymous, said, Brig. Mayarchung Zingkhai was a highly respected officer in the Naga Army and served with distinction.

His passing has been mourned widely across the Naga region, with various civil society leaders and organisations paying tribute to his legacy and service.

As tributes poured in for the late Brigadier Mayarchung Zingkhai, MSM, of the Naga Army, Wung Tangkhul Region, one deeply heartfelt condolence message stood out, a spiritual reflection penned by Kashung Hamung Shimray from Chingai Village, celebrating the life, faith, and service of the departed leader.

Rooted in the foundational Christian belief of “Nagaland for Christ / Nagalim for Christ,” the message pays homage not only to Brig. Mayarchung Zingkhai’s tireless dedication to the Naga cause, but also to his unwavering faith in Jesus Christ, the cornerstone of the Naga identity and struggle.

Shimray recalls the transformative love of God as the guiding force behind the resilience of the Tangkhul Naga people amidst hardships, insults, and systemic oppression. Quoting scripture—from John 1:1-3 to Romans 1:17 and John 3:16—he emphasizes that the spiritual journey of the Naga people is inseparable from their national aspirations, both flowing from a deep-rooted identity in Christ.

Describing Mayarchung Zingkhai, fondly remembered as Amei Yarchung, as a symbol of “love, help, support, strength and sacrifice,” Shimray honors him not only as a defender of the Naga cause but also as a servant of the gospel. “The life that we now live, we no longer depend on the works of the law, but we live by faith in the Son of God who loved us and gave His life for us — Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior,” he writes.

In powerful, prayerful prose, the message reflects the enduring strength of faith amid sorrow. Even in death, Brigadier Zingkhai’s legacy is seen as a testimony to God’s love and grace. “The tireless service you have rendered in a lifetime in the midst of all those fierce storms is not in vain,” the message reads. “We are encouraged because you already saw the beauty of God’s great love.”

The message closes with a final blessing:

“Rest in Peace, Brigadier Mayarchung Zingkhai, MSM, of GHQ, Naga Army, son of Late Matuiching Zingkhai, Kuirei Village, Tangkhul Naga Tribe.”
