Shillong, June 7: The Jaintia National Council (JNC), Khliehriat Circle, marked World Food Safety Day by launching surprise inspections across food stalls, hotels, and restaurants in Khliehriat village on Saturday. The initiative aimed to assess hygiene standards and raise awareness about the importance of safe food practices in the community.

Led by General Secretary Symboh Baiar Sumer, the inspection team found multiple establishments operating under unhygienic conditions, with several kitchens falling short of basic cleanliness requirements. The council warned that such negligence could pose serious health risks and contribute to the spread of foodborne illnesses.
