UKHRUL: The Wung Tangkhul Region (WTR) Administration has condemned and called for accountability over the ambush and killing of four army cadres at Hongbei village on March Saturday.
In an official statement, the WTR expressed deep grief over the loss, describing the victims as brave brothers whose lives were taken by assailants who did not understand the importance of brotherhood. The deceased have been identified as Major Sochipem Phungshok, S/Major Zairei Vasah, Sergeant Pahnle Ahlahpya, and Sergeant Thanshomi Vashi.
The administration has urged the government to clarify the circumstances surrounding the killings and demanded that those responsible be brought to justice with the highest punishment. It further stated that there has been no previous communication or correspondence regarding the incident with the Wung Tangkhul Region Administration, raising concerns about transparency.
The WTR emphasized the need for unity among the Tangkhul community and called the ambush a direct challenge to its jurisdiction and authority.
“Tangkhuls cannot be divided,” the statement read, adding that any internal divisions must be addressed by the highest authorities of the Naga nation.
