In a tragic incident a young woman and mother of a 7 month old child from Khangabok Part -1 Khullakpam Leikai, Thoubal died shortly after taking Covishield (COVID-19 vaccine) on Monday.
As the JAC formed in connection with the death and bereaved family claimed that the woman died due to the side effect of the vaccine, Chief Minister N Biren Singh has assured to probe the death by constituting a one-man committee.
The deceased Naorem ningol Laishram ongbi Kiranbala Devi, w/o L Sharat Singh was 37.
According to L Sharat, Kiranbala was administered Covishield at Sangaiyumpham Primary Health Sub Centre at around 1.30 pm yesterday and was put for observation for 30 minutes before returning home.
As Kiranbala complained of dizziness after returning home at around 5.30 pm, she was taken to Thoubal district hospital. However, she died at the hospital, the husband narrated.
Saying that his wife didn’t have any health issues, Sharat appealed to all concerned to probe the death to initiate legal proceedings against the guilty.
A committee christened JAC Against the Death of Naorem ningol Laishram ongbi Kiranbala Devi was formed today and several resolutions were adopted.
The convenor of the JAC, L Shanta said that the death of Kiranbala, who was healthy, shortly after taking the Covid vaccine is disheartening.
She took the vaccine after registering for vacci- nation virtually herself, he added.
It is certain that Kiranbala died due to the side effect of the vaccine, asserted Shanta and urged the State Government to investigate and reveal the cause of the death by June 10.
If the demand is not fulfilled within the stipulated time, the JAC will launch agitation with the help of CSOs, he cautioned and maintained that the body will also not be claimed until the cause of the death is made public.
It is reported that the JAC has also served a memorandum to the Chief Minister, DC Thoubal, SP Thoubal and CMO Thoubal. The memorandum said that the postmortem of the deceased be conducted in the presence of an Executive Magistrate and video camera.
