Ukhrul, August 22: On August 21, Amith Sagar L, a user on X, thanked the HSR Layout Police Station and the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) for their intervention in removing controversial graffiti ‘Zongam’ from city walls and flyover pillars. “I humbly thank @hsrlayoutps and @BBMPofficial for their timely response in resolving this issue. The painted places have been whitewashed.”

Earlier, on May 7, 2025, the same account had taken a firm stance against the graffiti, urging citizens to reject what he described as a separatist agenda. “As citizens of Bengaluru we need to reject such movements. Zogam movement is an anti-national movement aimed to break India. Such spray paintings near Iblur Defense Range is dangerous. The 0.5 war that needs to be fought by citizens has to be taken up by us.” his post read.

According to a report in a Facebook page, The Watchpoint Journal on August 18, it reported that the Police in Bengaluru have opened an inquiry after graffiti bearing the word “Zogam” appeared on several walls and overbridge pillars across the city, prompting a wave of outrage on social media and raising questions about separatist symbolism far from its origins in Manipur.

As per the report, the graffiti, painted in bold block letters, was found at multiple sites, including Agara Junction, the PWD Quarters, HSR Layout’s First Sector, and stretches along the service road near Agara Village in Bellandur. Images of the markings quickly circulated online, sparking sharp debate among residents and political commentators.

The report of The Watchpoint Journal also said that a number of Meitei users on X, formerly twitter, tagged the Bengaluru police, calling the graffiti evidence of a separatist agenda and demanding swift removal. Some alleged that “Zogam” is linked to a movement seeking a Christian homeland for the Zo people across parts of India, Myanmar, and Bangladesh — a claim that remains unverified but has fueled suspicion and alarm.

In this matter, The Watchpoint Journal reported that the HSR Layout Police Station acknowledged the incident in a statement posted on X: “In this regard, an enquiry has already been conducted, and appropriate action will be taken against the concerned persons.” Authorities have yet to disclose who was responsible for the graffiti or whether arrests are imminent.
