Ukhrul: The Hmar Inpui, apex body of the Hmar tribe in Manipur’s Churachandpur district in a press release on Saturday said Zairawn village, located in Jiribam district was attacked by “Meitei militants on November 7, 2024, around 9 PM, setting fire to 17 homes and taking the life of a young mother, Zosangkim Hmar (31), wife of Ngurthansang Hmar, in a brutal act of violence.”
According to a press release issued by the Hmar Inpui General Headquarters, the attackers captured Zosangkim Hmar, her three-year-old son Franky Lalchawisang, and nine-year-old daughters Victoria Laldomawi, and Lalringdik, aged seven.

The militants, the Hmar Inpui said “shot Zosangkim in the leg, rendering her unable to escape. Disregarding her humanity and her family’s unimaginable grief, the attackers raped, tortured and burned her alive, denying her even the dignity of an honorable burial. When her remains were later discovered, fragments of her brain lay beside her charred body—a haunting testament to the brutality she endured.”

“This horrific act adds to an eighteen-month spree of ethnic violence by Meitei militants—a continuous assault on innocent lives that has shattered communities and devastated countless families. This barbaric act serves as yet another chilling reminder of the relentless ethnic-cleansing campaign of the Meitei militants—a campaign that has terrorized our people without mercy for eighteen months,” stated the Hmar Inpui General Headquarters in their release. “Mrs. Zosangkim’s sacrifice shall be a call to action; to ignite an united resolve in every one of us to defend our lives, protect our lands, and preserve the dignity of our people against those who seek our destruction,” the Hmar Inpui added.
