Churachandpur, August 20: The Zomi Students’ Federation (General Headquarters) held a meeting on Wednesday with Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla in Churachandpur, where the group presented a detailed memorandum outlining a series of educational, administrative, and political demands affecting the district and the wider Zo community.

During what the student leaders described as a “fruitful interaction,” the delegation pressed for the expansion of Churachandpur Government College, including the introduction of postgraduate programs and the revival of its now-defunct community college. The memorandum also called for the establishment of a new central university and technical institutions such as an IIT or NIT in Lamka, alongside the completion of the permanent campus of Churachandpur Medical College at Mata village.

The ZSF further said it highlighted the plight of displaced teaching and non-teaching staff from Dhanamanjuri University and Manipur University, urging the state to create suitable avenues for their engagement.

The student body also said it raised grievances over the Manipur Public Service Commission (MPSC) examinations, alleging injustice faced by successful candidates from the 2016 recruitment process and calling for a permanent examination center in Lamka for the upcoming MPSC mains and other competitive examinations.

On administrative matters, the memorandum demanded the appointment of local officers in key district-level posts, including the District Transport Officer, as well as the establishment of new offices such as the Accountant General to streamline salary and pension disbursements, and a consumer court to address public grievances.

The students also sought to underscore the larger political concerns of the Zo ethnic tribes, urging the Governor to reflect their aspirations in his report to the President of India under Article 371(c) of the Constitution.
