11-year-old killed by mentally challenged man in Thoubal

Thoubal: In a tragic and shocking incident, an 11-year-old girl was killed by a mentally challenged man in Sapam area under Khongjom Police Station in Thoubal district this morning. The young victim, who was on her way to school to write an exam, was struck on the head and forehead with an 18 mm iron rod by the accused around 7:30 AM.

The accused has been identified as 42-year-old Sapam Sharat, son of the late Sapam Kalachand, from Sapam Sabal Leikai. The deceased girl, daughter of Khelendra and Jamuna from Sapam Maning Leikai, was a class 6 student at Ibemhal Visal Academy, Sapam Sabal Leikai.

Following the attack, local residents rushed the severely injured girl to Thoubal District Hospital for treatment. Due to the severity of her injuries, she was referred to RIMS Hospital in Imphal but tragically succumbed to her injuries en route.

In the aftermath of the incident, an irate mob apprehended and brutally thrashed Sharat, leaving him with severe injuries. The police intervened and transported the accused to JNIMS Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment. Sources indicate that the accused man is a known drug addict and a divorcee. The police have launched an investigation into the incident.
