110 PMGSY workers trapped in Chandel since May 3 airlifted

Chandel, May 15: At least 110 Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) workers trapped since the outbreak of May 3 ethnic violence were airlifted from the border area of Chandel district’s by Border Security Force (BSF) chopper under the initiative of State Home Department, Assam Rifles – 28 Sector Kakching, District Administration Chandel, District Police Chandel and District Administration Kakching, official sources said.

Four trips were flown to evacuate all the PMGSY workers from Phaisanjang under Khengjoi Sub-Division who were trapped in the interior areas of Chandel district.

The DIO Chandel said the evacuation was delayed due to unfavorable weather condition in the district.

Deputy Commissioner, SP Chandel, ADC Chandel, SDO Chandel, SDO Kakching were present in the evacuation initiative, the official source further added.
