Six Abducted Nagas Case to be Handed Over to NIA, CM Khemchand Tells UNC

IMPHAL: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh said that the “case of six abducted Nagas” will be handed over to the NIA. He also said that the killing of three church leaders on May 13 last in Kangpokpi district had also been handed over to the NIA.

The Chief Minister told this to a six-member delegation of the United Naga Council (UNC) who met the former and his cabinet colleagues today at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Imphal to discuss the prevailing law and order situation in the state, according to a statement from the Chief Minister’s office.

The UNC team comprised of  NG Lorho, president of UNC, N. Poujan Golmei, vice president,  L. Adani Mao,  Samson Remmei,  KS Paul Leo – all former presidents of UNC – and  AC Thotso, member secretary Working Committee, UNC.

The government was represented by the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho, Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam and Naga MLAs.

The UNC team demanded the government to trace the six abducted Naga villagers of Konsakhul in Kangpokpi district, said the Chief Minister’s office.

The Chief Minister told the UNC delegation that the “case of six abducted Nagas” will be handed over to the NIA. He said that the killing of three church leaders on May 13 last in Kangpokpi district had also been handed over to the NIA, the Chief Minister’s office added.

The Chief Minister then said that a search and rescue operation has been launched since May 14 last to trace the whereabouts of the six Nagas.

Khemchand Singh further appealed to the UNC to help in securing the release of “14 Kuki civilians who have been held captive” since the beginning of the incident, the Chief Minister’s office also said.

He also appealed to the Kuki communities to help in tracing the six Nagas.

The Chief Minister then urged all the communities to extend support to the government in normalizing the situation and restore peace in the state.
