6th Amur Falcon Festival Held at Chiuluan Village, Tamenglong

Tamenglong: At the 6th Amur Falcon Festival which was held on November 9 at Chiuluan Raenggaan, Chiuluan Village, Tamenglong District, Forest minister,Awangbow Newmai , said that conservation of wildlife is conserving our future life. Law cannot be enforced without giving awareness to the public, therefore Forest Department will spread awareness on conservation of wildlife at the same time, enforcement of laws will be taken up, he added.

Minster Awangbow Newmai graced the festival as the chief guest and was accompanied by H MH Khan, Additional Chief Secretary (Forest & Environment), government of Manipur as guest of honour and Dr AK Joshi as function president of the program.

The program was also attended by Hungyo Worshang IAS, Deputy Commissioner Tamenglong, Anupam, Tamenglong SP, Dr Dhananjai Mohan IFS, Director, Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun, Government of Manipur, Dr R Suresh Kumar, Scientist-E, Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun, Government of India, Rev Y. Nuklu Phom, Winner Whitley Award 2021 and Gaithaolu Thaimei, Conservator of Forest, Western Circle among others.

Culture of hunting have been commonly practiced in the locality and villages for fun and adventures, the minister said. However, he appreciated the initiative taken up to protect the wildlife. He observed that people are willing and have burning zeal to conserve and protect nature and wildlife. But people don’t really know their role on how to start it, he lamented. He informed that the Forest Department will take up various awareness programs to let people know in depth on the role and responsibilities.

Hunting has been a means of livelihood for many people, but knowing the importance of conserving wildlife, they have given up hunting. Government will look into the matter to create another means to see their livelihood, Minister assured. He will work out his best to help the people who help surrender their airguns to stop hunting of birds and animals, especially the Amur Falcon, Minister said.
