UKHRUL: The World Meetei Council (WMC) has dismissed the disinformation campaign regarding the 6th Plenary Session of the council.

As per WMC, certain disgruntled individuals- who were either suspended from WMC or who voluntarily resigned or dissociated themselves from the organization – have initiated a disinformation campaign aimed at misleading the public, particularly WMC members across the world.

“These individuals are falsely circulating that they are organizing a “6th Plenary Session” at Lamargram, Cachar District, Assam, on March 29, 2026,” WMC said in a statement, while categorically clarifying that its 6th Plenary Session is officially scheduled to be held in Imphal on April 19, 2026.

It may be recalled that WMC had duly notified to the general public on February 25 and widely covered by newspapers, news portals and social media platforms, including X (formerly Twitter) that the 6th Plenary Session – IMPHAL MEEPHAM 2026 will be held at the City Convention Centre, Imphal on April 19.

Stating that the recent claims of organizing the 6th Plenary Session at Lamargram on March 29, circulating on social media, are part of a deliberate attempt to spread misinformation and create confusion among the public,  WMC urged the individuals involved in the disinformation campaign to immediately cease such misleading and mischievous activities being carried out in the name of the organization.

WMC also appealed to concerned individuals, including media personalities and members of the legal fraternity, to exercise due diligence and ensure that their names or platforms are not inadvertently used to promote or legitimize such activities.

It further called upon media houses, including POKNAPHAM, The People’s Chronicle and The Sangai Express, whose names have reportedly been associated with the misinformation campaign, to look into the matter with seriousness and take necessary steps to prevent misuse of their esteemed institutions.
