7 dead, 40 injured in bus accident in Manipur’s Noney district

Noney: At least seven students have been confirmed death and 40 injuried in a fatal road accident in Manipur’s Noney district on Wednesday.

As per sources report, the ill-fated bus carrying class 11 students of Thambalnu Higher Secondary School, Yairipok Top Chingtha in Imphal East met with an accident along Bishnupur-Khoupum road. They were heading towards Khoupum for an annual study tour programme.

The fatal bus was carrying 47 persons, including students and staff of Thambalnu Higher Secondary School.

The bus carrying girls students reportedly rolled down from the road touching till another road. However, the exact cause of the accident is not ascertained by the time of filing this report.

Another bus carrying male students and locals of Khoupum were the first responders to the site.

So far, as per sources report, seven dead bodies from the accident have been deposited at JNIMS morgue. 7 persons who died, included 5 students, a warden and a teacher, according to CM Biren Singh.

Another 26 injured have been admitted at Raj Medicity, of which six are in ICU while 14 others are at RIMS for further treatment.

Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh took to twitter and assured a sum of Rs 5 lakh each from CM’s Relief Fund will be extended to victim’s families.
