UT News Service | IMPHAL, Aug 26: The Manipur government has modified Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) on handling of returnees in the state.
All returnees will be tested immediately for COVID-19 and if found negative, they will be allowed to go home, the modified SOP issued by state chief secretary Dr Rajesh Kumar stated on Wednesday.
While sending back home, they will be advised to follow all COVID-19 preventive measures like wearing of face mask, frequent washing of hands with soap and water, maintaining social distancing etc.
“No person shall be detained in quarantine centres after a negative test result,” it added.
While notifying the modified SOP, the chief secretary instructed chief medical officers of all districts to ensure immediate testing of returnees.
Meanwhile, with the death of a 65-year-old woman due to COVID-19 related illness at JNIMS hospital, the pandemic has so far claimed 25 lives in the state.
The cases of COVID-19 also increased in the state as the tally rose to 5,585 after 141 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours (till 5pm of August 26).
Among the new cases, 25 are personnel of the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF).
Of the 116 cases from the general population, except two from Noney district, others (114) are locals who have no travel history in the recent past, COVID-19 Common Control Room said in a press release.
