Economic blockade enforced by Senapati truck drivers called off

Senapati: The ongoing Steering down (Economic Blockade) enforced by the Senapati District Truck Owners Association and Senapati District Truck Drivers’ Union has been called off after a meeting with Transport Minister Khasim Vashum and MLA Kumo Sha today at the DC office, Senapati DHQ.

The bandh had been enforced since February 18 after 5 of the truck drivers and associates were physically assaulted by armed miscreants on February 16 night.

The following points were deliberated and agreed upon: as per the Manipur Police Control Room Press note, on 23.02.2024, Manipur Police arrested one active member of KYKL Organization from Imphal West identified as RK. Jitensana @ Nanao, (43 yrs) of Pangei Leiram Mapan near MPTC gate who is suspected to be involved in the assault of truck drivers at Sekmai on the night of February16, 2024.

Further investigation is underway. In order to provide due security to the trucks plying on NH-2, ROP shall be provided by the government. Relating to the unauthorized collection of taxes on sands, the government shall take strict action against such illegal collections. As per the discussions mentioned above, the SDTOA and SDTDU have agreed to withdraw the ongoing steering down agitation w.e.f February 27, 2024.

Members present during the meeting included Khasim Vashum, Minister of Transport, Govt of Manipur, J Kumo Sha, MLA, 47-Karong AC, Senapati District Truck Owners Association (SDTOA), Senapati District Truck Drivers Union (SDTDU), Deputy Commissioner, Senapati, ADM, Senapati, and Additional SP, Senapati.
