Imphal: Agitators once again stormed the Imphal residence of Union minister of State for External Affairs and Education, RK Ranjan on Monday.

This time, the agitators, mostly womenfolk, demanded that, as a MP from Manipur, Ranjan should table a detailed account of the violence unfolding in the state in the parliament.

A large number of people today thronged the residence of the Union minister at Kongba Nandeibam Leikai in Imphal East district. The police and Central security forces detailed there as guards of the Union minister’s residence blocked them from entering the abandoned residence.

Even as they were prevented from entering the residence of the Union minister, the agitators chanted various slogans demanding safeguarding the territorial integrity of Manipur, withdrawal of Assam Rifles from Manipur, abrogation of the Suspension of Operation (SoO) with Kuki militants, etc.

The agitators demanded that the Union minister must raise the issue confronting the state in the floor of the house of parliament in the ongoing session while tabling a detailed account of the root cause of the conflict.

Talking to reporters, a leader of the agitating women said that they were converging at the residence of Dr RK Ranjan to press him to table a detailed account of the violence unfolded in the state as he (RK Ranjan) was scheduled to speak on the floor of the parliament.
Unfortunately, no family member of the Union minister was found in the house, she said.

The leader expressed displeasure with the Centre and the state government for their failure to come up with any step to end the prolonged violence in the state.

“It has been nearly three months since the violence erupted in the state. However, either the Centre or the state government did not come up with a concrete step to restore peace in the state,” she said.

The ongoing violence has affected almost all sections of the society, the displaced people being the most sufferer section. The turmoil has brought about nothing but unbearable pain to the people, she said.

She said that being the representative of the people of Manipur in the parliament, it is the responsibility of Dr RK Ranjan to raise the ongoing unrest on the floor of parliament.

The women urged the leaders of the state and at the Centre to bring an amicable solution to the present crisis through political dialogue so that peace is restored in the state.
