IMPHAL: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh said the state government is fully committed to support higher education and skill development in the state.

“The government will also continue to work hand in hand with institutions like Manipur University to ensure that the youths have access to the best possible opportunities”, he added.

Khemchand was speaking at the 15th Convocation ceremony of Manipur University in Imphal on Friday.

The chief minister remarked that the convocation is not merely a ceremonial gathering, it is rather a celebration of the human spirit, perseverance, hard work, and the boundless potential of the graduating students. He further added that hard work, dedication, and resilience of the students have brought them to this proud moment.

Yumnam Khemchand Singh maintained that for years, Manipur University has been the epicentre of intellectual pursuit, a place where the boundaries of knowledge are pushed and where the complex challenges of our society are met with rigorous research and critical thinking. He also highlighted that Manipur University continues to shape today’s youth who are the pillars of strength and the engines of growth for our State and Nation.

The chief minister was delighted to know that 572 students of Manipur University have been placed in various government and private sector positions in the last two years.

He further stressed that the graduating students not only carry the degree with them but also carry the values, knowledge, and sense of responsibility that this university has instilled in them. They are the strength and driving force for the growth of the nation, he added.

Yumnam Khemchand Singh then urged all to get inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of youths to become “job creators instead of job seekers.”

During the convocation, more than 1,000 graduates were awarded degrees. Out of which, 332 students received gold medals in recognition of their outstanding academic achievements.

Notably, the convocation was held after a long gap of 12 years, with the previous ceremony having taken place in 2013. The convocation was also virtually attended by the students and faculties of Bethany College, Churachandpur; Presidency College, Motbung, Kangpokpi and Moreh College, Moreh.
