Ukhrul, Dec 24: The All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur has condemned the assault on the Senapati District Students Association (SDSA) executives by Kuki volunteers at Gamgiphai and vowed action deemed fit in the larger interest of the Nagas.

The student body, in a condemnation letter, stated that it was utterly pained and flabbergasted to learn about the reprehensible incident that occurred on 22nd December 2024 along the National Highway No. 2 at Kanglatongbi (Gamgiphai) Kuki check post where SDSA leaders were brutally assaulted. The association’s car with its nameplate was also vandalized by the Kuki miscreants in the incident.

The ANSAM unequivocally condemned the heinous and obnoxious act perpetrated against the leaders of a prestigious mass-based institution like SDSA which was a cornerstone of the ANSAM. It stated that such barbaric acts of intimidation and humiliation were highly unacceptable and uncalled for in any civilized society and should be condemned by every right-thinking citizen.

It viewed such act towards the leaders as an insult and a direct challenge to all the Naga populace. It further expressed concern and dismay at the defied number of MoUs and settlement agreements signed between the Naga and Kuki civil society organizations.

Speaking about the continuous checking on the highways especially in the Kuki-dominated areas, the student body warned that continuous checking and stoppage of vehicular movements on the roads would only cause problems between the communities and appealed for its immediate cessation to maintain peace and goodwill amongst the communities.

Mention may be made that commuters along the highway have been subjected to unwarranted checking, stopping, and harassment from the Kuki community since May 3rd, 2023 without any compunction and has now become a matter of grave concern posing serious threats and questions. It is also to be noted that only Nagas and non-Meitei communities are commuting on the highways, especially in the hill areas.
