IMPHAL, JUNE 4: As the hostage issue continues to prevail, the All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM) has resolved “to resort to different forms of intensified agitation”. This resolution was taken following the expiry of the ultimatum issued by the ANSAM to the Government of Manipur and the concerned authorities to establish the whereabouts of the six Naga hostages. The resolution was taken during an emergency assembly of the Naga student body was convened on June 3, 2026, at Ukhrul district headquarter hosted by Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) to deliberate on the prevailing situation.
The ANSAM assembly observed with “profound disappointment” that despite the lapse of the stipulated deadline, no concrete information regarding the safety, whereabouts, or status of the six Naga hostages has been made available to their families or the Naga people. “The prolonged silence and lack of visible progress have further intensified the anxiety and suffering of the victim’s families and the Naga people at large”, it also said.
Therefore, the ANSAM assembly reaffirmed the decision of the emergency presidential council meeting demanding the state government to establish the condition and position of the “six Naga hostages abducted on May 13, 2026, at Leilon Vaiphei during a broad daylight by KNF(P) along with the Leilon Vaiphei villagers and handover to the victim’s families and the Naga people”.
The ANSAM meeting resolved to resort to different forms of intensified agitation starting with a march toward Imphal passing through Ukhrul-Imphal NH 202 on June 4, 2026, with all the units of the ANSAM to meet the 6 Naga hostages victim’s families at Makhan village and all concerns.
Also, taking cognizance of the fact that the prevailing exigencies requires inclusiveness among the Naga community, the meeting stressed that the decision of the presidential council for boycotting the state government needs wider consultation for effective implementation of the same. Therefore, it resolved to endorse the ANSAM executives council and its units to conduct intensive consultation with all stakeholders.
Further, the meeting resolved to form an action committee on the prevailing situation in “Naga homeland to be constituted by the executive council by nominating former leaders of the ANSAM as the committee members”.
The ANSAM then said it “remains committed to pursuing all democratic and peaceful means available until justice is delivered to the affected communities and the six hostages are reunited with their families”.The Naga student body further said the suffering endured by the families of the hostages cannot be ignored, and every possible effort must be made to bring them home safely.
