Kangpokpi: In a disturbing turn of events, armed miscreants abducted and subjected four policemen to a brutal assault in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district. The Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) swiftly responded by declaring a 24-hour shutdown across the district, effective from Saturday midnight onwards.
Sources reveal that the incident unfolded when the four police personnel, en route from Imphal to Kangpokpi, were intercepted and abducted at Koirengei along National Highway 2 in Imphal East. Blindfolded and threatened, the victims were later found at Khonghampat, bearing signs of severe physical assault.

Identified as Ram Bahadur Karki, Ramesh Budhathoki, Manoj Khatiwoda, and Md Taj Khan, the assaulted officers hail from diverse communities including Gorkha and Muslim. Despite receiving initial medical aid at District Hospital Kangpokpi, they required further treatment at Kangpokpi Christian Hospital.
Meanwhile, condemnation poured in from various quarters, with the Kuki Students’ Organisation-Sadar Hills denouncing the attack as an assault on the pillars of the state. The organization questioned the efficacy of state authorities and urged swift action against the perpetrators. It further cautioned that steps taken by the KSO-Sadar hills will be sole responsibility of the government in case adequate steps are not taken by the state and Union against the outlaw organisation that comprises habitual offenders at the earliest.
