The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Assam, informed that a total of 946 candidates are contesting the Assam Election 2021 for the 126-member Assam Legislative Assembly.
To be held in three phases, the first phase of the election gets underway on March 27 where polling will take place in 47 constituencies and 264 candidates are in the fray.
In the second phase, there are a total of 345 candidates in the fray and voting will take place in 39 assembly constituencies.
For the remaining 40 constituencies in the third phase, a total of 337 candidates are in the fray.
It may be mentioned here that a total of 2,33,74,087 electors across 126 Assembly constituencies in the State will exercise their franchise.
Of the total 2,33,74,087 electors, 1,18,23,286 are males, 1,15,50,403 are females, and 398 are transgender while there are also 63,074 service voters.
“In the Special Summary Revision, a total of 12,81,918 electors have been newly enrolled. The state has a total of 2,89,474 electors who are above 80 years of age,” CEO, Assam, informed.
A total of 81,09,815 electors will exercise their franchise in the first phase while in the second and third phase, 73,44,631 and 79,19,641 general electors will exercise their franchise respectively.
