UKHRUL: A 20-year-old girl from Assam’s Kamrup district, who went missing while travelling by train from Visakhapatnam to Guwahati, was found dead in Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday.
The deceased has been identified as Himashree Boro, a resident of Chapaidong near Bonda on the outskirts of Guwahati. She was a student of B Borooah College in Guwahati.
According to a complaint filed by Boro’s mother, she was travelling on the Dibrugarh-Kanyakumari Vivek Express (Train No. 22503) and had boarded the train from Visakhapatnam late on October 5 while returning to Guwahati. The train was scheduled to reach Guwahati on October 7.
Boro had travelled to Visakhapatnam on September 30 as part of a dance troupe from Assam to participate in a programme and was returning home after the event, Pratidin Time reported.
The family last spoke to her on October 6. According to The Week, Boro’s mother said her daughter’s last message indicated that she was afraid because there were several men around her.
Her disappearance was reported to the Government Railway Police (GRP) in Guwahati and through the Railways helpline 139. Railway police began searching along the route after her bag was found in the S2 coach of the train.
The family also alleged that some men travelling in the same coach had made obscene gestures towards Boro, Pratidin Time reported.
CCTV footage reportedly showed Boro walking along a railway platform before boarding the train. According to Pratidin Time, an unidentified man was seen approaching her and appearing to speak to her before the train departed. The man also appeared to attempt to board the train but later got off.

The cause of death is yet to be ascertained, and the circumstances surrounding her death remain under investigation, according to railway police sources cited by NDTV.
The body was subsequently handed over to her family.
