Ukhrul: The Assam Rifles said it facilitated homecoming ceremony in Pallel, Manipur, of “a young man who was forced to join PREPAK, an insurgent group.”
The Assam Rifles took to X on Saturday about the ceremony which said the young People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak insurgent reunited with his family.

The young man, who reportedly faced harsh conditions while in Myanmar, managed to escape and was intercepted by the Assam Rifles near the Indo-Myanmar border. “After escaping harsh conditions of Myanmar, he was intercepted near the Indo-Myanmar border by Assam Rifles and given a chance for a new beginning,” said the Assam Rifles.

This initiative is part of the Assam Rifles’ ongoing efforts to foster peace and stability in the region by encouraging the youth to embrace a new beginning. Notably, Kamjong Brotherhood Cup Football Championship was organised by the Assam Rifles on October 24 that showcased the incredible talent of players in Manipur’s Kamjong District, promoting peace and understanding among the Tangkhul and Kuki communities, at a time when the State is affected by ethnic tensions.
It may be also be mentioned that three Manipur based insurgents were killed in action in the Indo-Myanmar border on October 23. The bodies of the three cadres were retrieved by the 5th Assam Rifles, included two members of PREEPAK (PRO) and one from RPF/PLA. As per a statement of PREEPAK (PRO), the encounter took place during a raid on a KNF(B) hideout that led to the deaths of PLA Captain Oinam Gulu, PREEPAK (PRO) self-styled Captain Wahengbam Saratkumar, and PREEPAK (PRO) Lance Corporal Nongmaithem Boneysana.
