Assam Rifles Vacate Camp at Hongbei

Ukhrul: January 12: The Assam Rifles stationing at Hongbei village has vacated their makeshift camp situated at Hongbei village under Kasom Khullen Block, Kamjong District, Manipur on Sunday.

K. Yarchuiso, President of Tangkhul Aze Katamnao Long (TAKL), informed this correspondent that the Assam Rifles stationing at Hongbei has packed their belongings and vacated the camp.

The understanding was brought on Sunday morning in a meeting that was attended by Deputy Commissioner of Kamjong, Superintend of Police of Kamjong, Brigadier Sandeep Singh of Assam Rifles and Tangkhul CSOs.”

K. Yarchuiso also informed that another meeting will be held at Ukhrul Headquarters on Monday in the presence of Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL), the apex body of Tangkhul tribal community.

The Assam Rifles established a checkpoint and constructed a temporary checkpost at Hongbei. However, neighboring villages have accused the Assam Rifles of harassment and restricting their movement. In response, the Assam Rifles refuted these allegations in a press release.

Villagers from the Kasom Khullen Block in Kamjong District stormed the makeshift camp of the 40 Assam Rifles and dismantled it at Hongbei village on January 11, 2025.
