Mao, June 5: Through the initiative of its Eco-Club, Asufii Christian Institute (ACI) observed World Environment Day 2025 by organising an Indigenous Cherry Plantation Drive under the theme “One Student, One Tree.” The plantation began at Kapengho, along the interstate road to Kidimi, Nagaland, and extended to the ACI campus, covering a stretch of approximately 1.5 kilometres.

The event was spearheaded by Dr. Lokho Chakre, Convener of the Eco-Club, who highlighted the ecological and cultural value of indigenous species. “This initiative is not just about planting trees, it’s about cultivating responsibility, reviving our connection with the land, and preserving the natural beauty of our region,” he shared.

Principal Dr. Daili Neli appreciated the collective effort of the ACI community and noted that such an initiative goes beyond symbolic celebration. “Planting indigenous trees not only enhances the landscape but also safeguards local biodiversity and cultural heritage.” Through this exercise, the college hopes to instil a lasting sense of ecological stewardship in every student and staff member.

The “One Student, One Tree” campaign is part of ACI’s broader mission toward environmental education, sustainable campus development, and meaningful community participation. Each student has pledged to care for their sapling, turning this plantation drive into a long-term commitment to the environment.
