Biometric collection of illegal migrants in Manipur extended till March 2024

Delhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs, Foreigners Division has extended the time for collecting biometrics of illegal migrants in Manipur to 31st March 2024.

It may be mentioned that the ministry, in a letter dated May 29, 2023, to the Manipur chief secretary, instructed the Manipur government to quickly prepare and initiate the collection of biographic and biometric details of illegal migrants in the state and complete the exercise by the end of September this year.

Further, after considering that the stipulated time is going to be over and the exercise is still going on and may require some more time to complete, the ministry extended it till 31st March, next year. Director (Foreigners) Surender Kumar, in a letter addressed to Manipur chief secretary, dated September 29, 2023, informed the same.
