Imphal: Ten “like-minded political parties” in Manipur have called on the people of the state to participate in the flagging-off program of Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra while expressing solidarity with the purpose of the yatra.

The bloc comprises AAP, AIFB, AITC, CPI, CPI(M), JD(U), NCP, RSP, Congress, and SS(UBT). Leaders of the bloc addressed a press conference in Imphal this afternoon.

They appealed to all sections of people to come out and join the rally for peace and unity, claiming that it is a proud moment for the people of the state that Rahul Gandhi decided to start the yatra from Manipur.

The leaders of the opposition parties also criticized the BJP-led government for the restricted permit granted to organize the flag-off program in Imphal’s Hapta Kangjeibung.

CPI(M) Manipur State Council secretary, Kshetrimayum Santa, who is also the convener of the bloc, criticized the manner in which the state government granted permission to use Hapta Kangjeibung as the program venue.

He questioned the logic behind the delay in granting permission, alleging that it was intentionally done to hinder the preparation for the event.

“The conditional permit, granted after a delay, has infringed upon the democratic right to assemble and express dissent of the people of the state,” he said.

He highlighted the purpose of the yatra and said that the peace and unity call of the yatra is very much relevant to the prevailing situation in Manipur.

He stated that the prevailing turmoil in the state, where people are living in a state of anxiety, necessitates a collective effort to restore stability and normalcy.

Attending the press conference, JDU Manipur unit senior spokesperson, Dr. Nimaichand Luwang, stressed the significance of Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, asserting that the yatra has already attracted widespread attention from people across the country.
