Manipur violence: Fourth missing villager found murdered four days later

Imphal: Four days later, body of the missing villager of Wangoo Terakhong Akasoi, Kumbi Assembly Constituency, Bishnupur District, Ahanthem Darasing, Son of late Ahanthem Apikchao was recovered from Wangoo Sabal Maning Meichakpi Ching on Saturday morning.

A combined team of Bishnupur district Police, Manipur Rifles, IRB personnel and Mahar Regiment found the body after a massive hunt around 11 am.

Late 54-year-old Ahanthem Darasing along with 3 other villagers including, a father-son duo went missing on January 10 after they went to collect firewood at the adjoining hill. Suspected to have been killed by Kuki miscreants, bodies of the other three villagers identified as Thoudam Ibomcha (53), (son of late Thoudam Pangoi) and his son Thoudam Anand (27), and Oinam Romen (35) son of Oinam Pishak were retrieved on Thursday morning. The bodies were recovered from a location not very far from the post of Mahar Regiment.

Darasing’s body was reportedly found lying just about 200 metres uphill from the spot where the other 3 bodies were found. His body has been shifted to RIMS morgue.

It may be mentioned that, a viral video released by Kuki miscreants on social media platforms on Wednesday claimed that they had killed the four villagers.

Meanwhile, Kumbi MLA Sanasam Premchandra has assured that culprits involved in the killing of four innocent daily wage earning villagers of Wangoo Terakhong Akasoi will not be spared and that they will be given befitting punishment under the law.

Speaking to media at Haotak Tampha Khunou, Kumbi Constituency on Saturday, the MLA said the three Armed Kuki miscreants who claimed on social media that they have killed the four villagers will be arrested soon and further investigation will be conducted to find out all others involved in the crime.
