Inpui (Kabui) Tribe celebrates Karing Ngei festival in Delhi

New Delhi: The Inpui Students’ Union Delhi (Inpui Ningbwan Indung Delhi) organized a vibrant celebration of Karing Ngei, the grandest festival of the Inpui (Kabui) Naga tribe, at Nehru Park on January 12. This annual event marks the dawn of the new year with joyful festivities, honoring ancestral traditions and fostering a spirit of renewal within the community.

Historically, Karing Ngei followed the poignant Tataak ceremony, bidding farewell to departed souls. Today, it signifies a fresh start, characterized by exuberant dances, songs, and games like heitho, tren kaloi, tren saphun, aiphun, sana-nupa, and tangan-aan kadai. The celebration also featured contemporary song performances, bakiaknu, and a unique lemon and chili competition, adding a modern twist to the age-old traditions.

The event concluded with a heartfelt prayer for the well-being of the community and a yearning for lasting peace in Manipur. Karing Ngei’s vibrant spirit extends beyond mere festivity, serving as a beacon of hope and unity for the Inpui (Kabui) Naga tribe.
