BSF Meghalaya Apprehends Five Bangladeshi Nationals, Thwarts Smuggling Attempts Along Border

Shillong, Jan 21: BSF Meghalaya apprehended five Bangladeshi “smugglers” and successfully thwarted various smuggling attempts along the international border, a statement from the BSF claimed today.

Troops of BSF Meghalaya Frontier apprehended five Bangladeshi nationals and thwarted multiple attempts to smuggle various contraband items to Bangladesh through the international border on Monday, the statement also said.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, 200 Bn BSF troops launched an operation in South Garo Hills and apprehended five Bangladeshi nationals who have been identified as Md. Sakibul Basir, 20 years, Adnan Mahamod Rohim, 22 years, Sojib Ahamed, 17 years, Md. Sakib Hussain, 19 years and Md. Saju, 27 years. In addition, several other operations were carried out in East Khasi Hills (EKH) and West Khasi Hills (WKH), the BSF added.

During these operations, a substantial haul of illegal goods was intercepted. The total value of the seized items was estimated at Rs. 13.54 lakh, it further said.

The confiscated goods have been handed over to the relevant Customs offices and police stations for further investigation and legal actions, it added.
