Chandel to Observe Total Shutdown, Mass Rally on Feb 12 Against Indo-Myanmar Border Fencing

Chandel: The Chandel Naga Peoples’ Organisation (CNPO) has announced a total shutdown and a mass public rally on February 12 to protest against the border fencing and the scrapping of the Free Movement Regime (FMR) along the Indo-Myanmar border.

The shutdown will be observed from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM in all Naga areas of 41-Chandel and 42-Tengnoupal, with only essential services such as medical, fire brigade, and electricity being exempted.

Alongside the shutdown, a mass public rally will begin at 11:00 AM from Maha Union Government Higher Secondary School, Japhou, passing through Japhou Bazaar and concluding at the DC Office in Chandel.

CNPO has urged the participation of all Eleven Naga Tribe Hohos of Chandel, NSUC and its units, NCAC, MACA, Japhou Bazaar Board, area-wise chief associations, village authorities, church leaders, social leaders, and the general public.

The shutdown will affect multiple areas, including Chandel district headquarters, Chakpikarong, Kapaam, Tuishímí, Machi, Aimol Pallel, Khangshim, Thamlapokpi, Lamkang Khunou, and Tengnoupal.

The organisation has appealed for public cooperation, expressing gratitude for the support towards their cause.
