COCOMI Team to Head to Delhi Over Manipur Crisis

Imphal, May 25: A team from the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) will head to Delhi on Monday to meet officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). Their goal is to discuss long-pending issues related to the ongoing crisis in Manipur.

The COCOMI said in a statement on Sunday that the team will include seven members, led by the committee’s convenor, Kh. Athouba. The other members are Yengkokpam Dhiren Meetei, L. Jadumani Singh, Thiyam Bharat Singh, Laikhuram Jayenta Singh, Phijam Shyamchand Singh, and Yumkhaibam Surjitkumar.

Speaking to reporters from the group’s office in Lamphel, Imphal West, Athouba said the meeting will take place on May 27. It will focus on the outcomes of the “Manipur People’s Convention” held on May 3, 2025, where community leaders discussed ways to resolve the crisis.

The Manipur conflict began on May 3, 2023, with violent clashes between the Meitei and Kuki communities. Since then, over 250 people have died, and more than 60,000 have been displaced.

The state is also facing a political deadlock. After N. Biren Singh resigned as chief minister on February 13, the central government imposed President’s Rule in Manipur.

Meanwhile, the COCOMI said the team will raise several key issues at the Delhi meeting, including concerns about the Governor’s recent actions and state-level administrative problems. One incident they plan to highlight is the May 20 case in Gwaltabi, where a government bus carrying journalists to Ukhrul was reportedly forced to remove the word “Manipur” from its signage.
