Imphal: Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh on Sunday took a dig at Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra that was flagged off from Manipur today, while stating that it sounds like “Bharat toro (break) Yatra”.

Talking on the sideline of the 8th Armed Forces Veterans Day held in Imphal today, the chief minister said the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra sounds like Bharat ‘toro’ yatra.

“I do not consider it to be a Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra but Bharat toro yatra,” he said.

To a query on granting restricted permit to use Hatpa Kangjeibung as launch pad for the yatra, Biren said that the government has stopped granting any permission to any function related with large gatherings in view of the prevailing law and order situation.

To note here, the Congress did seek permission to use Hatpa Kangjeibung in Imphal as the launch pad for the yatra. However, the Congress had to change the venue in the last minutes owing to the restricted permit granted by the Imphal East district administration.

The yatra was flagged off today from a private ground near Khongjom War Memorial site in Thoubal district peacefully with thousands of people turning up to attend the flagging off function.

“You to know, now is the time for the people to save their lives and properties and it is not the time to hold mass rallies and do politics,” Biren said.
