DC Jiribam Invokes Public Premises Act to Remove Unauthorized Constructions

Ukhrul, July 11: The District Administration of Jiribam has issued a stern eviction order against unauthorized structures built in the town and public areas, warning of strict penal action and demolition if violators fail to comply.

In an official directive dated July 11, Deputy Commissioner Krishna Kumar, IAS, cited numerous cases of illegal occupancy, such as extensions, shops, and sheds, erected on both permanent and temporary bases along roadsides and public spaces. These structures, the order notes, have not only caused serious traffic obstructions but also posed safety risks and public inconvenience.

Acting under Section 3 of the Manipur Public Premises (Eviction of Unauthorized Occupants) Act, 1978, the district administration has directed all encroachers to voluntarily remove their structures, belongings, and debris by 3 PM on July 18, 2025.

Failure to comply will result in immediate penal action, including forcible eviction and demolition, carried out by the District Administration with assistance from the police and other line departments. Importantly, the costs of removal will be borne by the encroachers themselves.

The order has been widely circulated to key departments, including the Manipur Governor’s Secretariat, Chief Secretary’s Office, Home Department, and the Superintendent of Police in Jiribam, who has been instructed to ensure adequate security during the eviction drive.
