DIPR Provides Financial Assistance to 3 Journalists; 2 Lakh Ex-gratia to Ukhrul based Lt. Sr. Journalists’ Wife

Financial assistance under the Manipur State Journalists Welfare Scheme (MSJWS), Department of Information and Public Relations, Government of Manipur was provided to 3 journalists on Saturday at DIPR Office Complex, Keishampat, Imphal by Shri L. Ashokumar, DDO, DIPR and Km. T. Sangeeta, APO (Press), DIPR.

The scheme was launched formally on 30th June, 2017 at City Convention Centre, Imphal by Chief Minister N. Biren Singh as part of important programme of the new Government’s 100 day’s achievement.

Shri Thingbaijam Dhamen, Imphal Correspondent, Nagaland Post, Top Awang Leikai, Imphal East and Shri Chongtham Meghabarna, Editor, Paonilkhon, Nagamapal Singjubung Leirak, Imphal West were provided assistance amounting to Rs. 57,057/- and Rs. 1,00,000/- respectively for medical treatment.

An assistance of Rs 2,00,000 was handed over to the representative of The Aja Daily who will hand over the cheque to Mrs. Leishiwon Shaiza, w/o (L) Thotshang Shaiza, Correspondent, The Aja Daily, Viewland Zone-1, Ukhrul District, Manipur as an ex-gratia on the sudden death of the journalists.

He passed away recently due to Covid related complications.

It may be mentioned that Advisory committee member Sobhabati Samon and acting secretary Khundrakpam Jyotindro led five members All Manipur Working Journalists Union (AMWJU) team visited deceased senior journalist late Thotshang Shaiza family at his Viewland residence in Ukhrul on June 16 (Wednesday).

Thotshang Shaiza joined journalism in 2009 and had served the district’s press fraternity in varied capacities as its president for consecutive two terms, as district correspondent for ISTV. He was UDWJA advisor and a district correspondent for The Aja Daily till he breathed his last.
