Senapati: The District Administration reported 819 affected victims whose houses were destroyed under different categories on Monday. With more numbers likely to increase in the coming days, Deputy Commissioner Mamoni Doley, IAS, based on assessments of damage made by concerned SDOs & Officials, wasted no time reporting the list of victims to the Additional Chief Secretary (Relief & Disaster Management), Government of Manipur. The report was based on a study of recent natural calamities and the receipt of names and details by concerned SDOs, which occurred on March 26th and May 5th this year.
According to the list, Paomata sub-division was the most affected, while many from Willong, Tadubi, and Senapati sub-divisions were also included. The assessment report was categorized with the respective number of victims in four sub-divisions according to the scale of damage—partially, severely damaged, and fully damaged. Paomata alone reported cases of 678 houses/properties damaged, Willong-112, Tadubi-21, and Senapati-8.
Additionally, the natural mayhem also partially damaged Chakha Primary School, Maram Center LP School, Oklong ground Gallery roof, PHC Paomata was severely damaged, and DRDA Hall Paomata center was partially damaged by strong winds.

It may be noted that some parts of Senapati District were also affected by the recent hailstorm which occurred on March 26th and May 5th, 2024, wherein almost countless houses were damaged by recent natural calamities. Apart from destroying massive areas of local vegetation, many houses were uprooted and destroyed beyond repair as hailstones & pellets hit many remote villages under Paomata and Willong Sub-Divisions. Villages like Willong Khunou, Chakha, Pumdumlong, Liyai, Laii, Chingmai Khullen, Saranamai, Tunggam were some of the major villages affected by the March 26th hailstones. According to sources, even during the last week of April, some more houses at Liyai village were destroyed by heavy wind and hailstorm.
It may be recalled that the District Administration Senapati had also provided immediate relief materials to those families affected by the devastating hailstorm that occurred on March 26, 2024. Relief materials including food supplies, rice, edible oil, sugar, family tents, and 50 tarpaulins were distributed to the affected victims of Tunggam Khullen, Makhufii, Saranamai, Liyai Khunou, Liyai Khullen, Chingmai Khunou, Chingmai Khullen Katafiimai, New Laii, Pumdumlong, Rajaimei, Willong Khunou, Chakha, and Oklong villages of Senapati District.

Notably, MLA N.Kayisii immediately provided CGI sheets to many victims in Willong Sub-Division. Caretaker ADC Chairman A. Kapani also personally visited some villages and assured to repair some schools to avoid losing the academic session.
After a devastating hailstorm last weekend accompanied by strong winds and huge hailstones in Manipur, the State Government has unveiled a relief package worth Rs. 6.90 crore from the State Disaster Relief Fund (SDRF) for people affected by the recent hailstorm. Addressing a press conference, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh said the recent hailstorm affected more than 15,400 houses till now. The package will allocate Rs. 50 lakhs each for six valley districts and Rs. 40 lakhs each for eight affected hill districts through concerned District Administration officials.
