Imphal: A sit-in-protest staged by doctors, medical students and staff of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) in Imphal on Thursday registered a strong protest against the recent gun attack at the residence of its director Dr Laishram Deben.

Armed miscreants who came in a car attacked the residence of JNIMS director Dr Deben at Kakwa Asem Leikai in Imphal by firing several rounds late on November 6 night.

“We strongly condemn the attack on the residence of our director Dr Deben with guns,” said an MBBS student of JNIMS who took part in the sit-in-protest staged at JNIMS hospital campus today.

He said that since the outbreak of ethnic violence in the state, the JNIMS director, in his capacity, has been involved in various activities concerning the relief and welfare of displaced people.

He has been providing various activities to make sure that all those victims affected by the crisis receive full health care services, he added.

The officer also extended his support to a displaced female student from Moreh who scored high marks in the NEETexamination and almost lost her hope of studying MBBS.

The director came forward and assured all kinds of help including monetary assistance for the study until she completes her MBBS course for the girl who is taking shelter at a relief camp in Imphal, he said.
