Manipur missing teenage boys case: JAC Extends statewide bandh until Nov 11

Imphal: The Joint Action Committee formed in connection with missing of two teenage boys from Akham Awang Leikai, Imphal West has decided to extend their proposed “Statewide Manipur Bandh” until till 1 pm on November 11. Earlier, the bandh was called for just one day on November 10 from 4 am to 1 pm.

JAC representative Moirangthem Sunilkumar told media that the decision to extend the bandh duration was taken in the wake of government’s failure to trace the two missing teenage boys who have gone missing since November 5.

Manipur police has arrested two suspects and recovered their mobile phones but the government has failed to give any positive response on their whereabouts till date. The JAC along with Civil Society Organisations, Student bodies and general public will launch an intense agitation, if government failed find the missing boys before the completion of bandh period, Moirangthem Sunilkumar said.

Womenfolk and students on Thursday carried out protest-meets at various parts in valley, urging government to find the missing boys.

It may be noted that the recent disappearance of the two teenage boys is the second such incident in violence-hit Manipur. Earlier, two young students went missing in July and when photos of their suspected bodies went viral, intense agitation erupted in the state.
